Guwahati: The All Assam Restaurant Association (AARA) has urged the Assam govt to immediately allocate a dedicated supply of commercial LPG cylinders to the hospitality sector, warning that restaurants and hotels across the state may face complete operational shutdown if the shortage continues. The association appealed to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to intervene in what it described as an ‘escalating commercial LPG crisis’, affecting the restaurant industry in Assam. The members said restaurants across the state are currently struggling due to an abrupt halt in the supply of commercial LPG cylinders.“If supplies are not restored soon, many restaurants and hotels may be forced to shut operations within days. Such closures could have severe economic consequences, as the hospitality sector is one of the largest employers of both skilled and unskilled workers in the state,” said Ishanu Barua, secretary of the association. He cautioned that thousands of workers could lose their jobs if restaurants are forced to close. There could also be a ripple effect on local supply chains. Small-scale vendors who depend on restaurants as a market for their goods could face losses.
