Itanagar: At least four people died and three others were injured after a landslide triggered the collapse of a protection wall of an under-construction building at Niti Vihar in Itanagar around 4pm on Monday, officials said.Seven workers present at the site were buried under the debris after the wall collapsed, the officials said.Rescue teams retrieved all seven people from the debris. Four of them were found dead, while three injured were admitted to Heema Hospital. The deceased were identified as Choki Tasar, Ratan Burman, Godak Raja and Godak Tabin, the officials said. The injured were identified as Tatung Tajit, Choki Takio, and Hasinoor Ali.Itanagar assistant commissioner Tamo Dadda, who went to the spot, said seven workers were at the site when the wall collapsed. “Out of the seven workers, four were found dead on the spot, while two were injured. One person was initially reported missing but was later rescued from the debris during the operation,” Dadda said.Officials said the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) received a call about the incident at 4.19pm, following which SDRF personnel, along with Itanagar police and district administration officials, went to the site and launched a rescue operation. The rescue work was hampered due to continuous rainfall, which made the mud heavy, posing challenges for the teams to locate the trapped victims. “Because of the rain, the soil became dense and unstable, making it difficult to determine the precise location of the victims. However, the rescue teams made every possible effort to retrieve them,” Dadda added.Further details regarding the exact cause of the collapse are awaited, the officials said.
