Bengaluru: A late-night gathering at a college student’s rented house turned violent after a dispute over accessing a mobile phone, leaving the student injured and prompting a police complaint against six youths.Sandhya (name changed), 19, a second-year BBA student at a private college, complained to police that she was assaulted and threatened by a group of youths who were guests at a party hosted by her roommate on June 12. Her roommate’s guests consumed alcohol at the party. Sandhya did not drink and was having dinner separately.Trouble began at 12.30am when one of the men, Kishore, took her mobile phone and started going through her personal WhatsApp chats. When she objected and demanded that he return her phone, an argument broke out.Sandhya said Kishore claimed to possess her personal videos and private chats. As she attempted to take her phone back and shouted at him, he grabbed her head and slammed it against a wall before punching her on the face. She alleged that the others joined in, pulled her clothes, dragged her and verbally abused her. They also threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident to anyone.Fearing for her safety, she contacted helpline 112, following which the accused left the premises. After receiving treatment at a govt hospital, she lodged a complaint on June 15. Byadarahalli police have registered a case.
