Coimbatore: The city police, in association with volunteers, distributed cheques totalling Rs7.3 lakh to 18 children of victims of various crime cases handled by them. The assistance was distributed at the city police commissionerate on Saturday.For children who lost their parents or whose families were pushed into financial distress by crime, the city police’s Kavasam Foundation is stepping in with a helping hand.The foundation was set up in 2023. The initiative aims at providing livelihood support to crime-affected families and ensuring that their children are able to continue their education, despite the financial setbacks faced by their families.Since its inception, Kavasam Foundation has extended financial assistance of around Rs60 lakh to 117 children, besides providing livelihood support to affected families.Police officials said the initiative was conceived to ensure that children do not have to bear the brunt of the financial consequences faced by families affected by crimes.They said the foundation would continue to support the children from crime-affected families through education assistance and other forms of financial support.
