The committee comprised Delhi commericial court representatives and advocates

COIMBATORE: A private industrial unit in Gandhi Nagar here was sealed on Saturday by a committee appointed by a Delhi commercial court on charges of manufacturing and selling counterfeit adhesive products. According to sources, the company used the deceptively similar brand name “HQ,” imitating the registered “HP” brand of Adhesives Limited, a Mumbai-based firm.Following complaints that adhesive products bearing the “HQ” mark were being sold in packaging that closely resembled genuine “HP” products in branding style, logo placement, colour combination, and overall trade dress, the brand’s owner approached the commercial court in Delhi. The court found that a prima facie case of trademark and copyright infringement had been made out and appointed a committee to conduct a search and seize the counterfeit materials.“During the inspection by the committee comprising a court representative and advocates, a substantial quantity of adhesive products bearing the impugned ‘HQ’ mark was found. Moreover, the products were being manufactured, packaged and marketed under a name and visual presentation that infringed the registered trademark and copyrighted trade dress of the original brand owner,” said Namrata Jain, an advocate who were a part of the team raided. As per the court order, the infringing goods were seized and the unit was sealed.
