COIMBATORE: A postgraduate student was arrested by the Podanur police after 9 kg of ganja was seized from him on Wednesday. The arrested has been identified as P Sivasakthi, 23, of Ariyalur district. He is a second-year postgraduate student in a private college at Saravanampatti here and staying in a rented house in the area.The Podanur police on Wednesday received intelligence about ganja peddling on the Salem-Kochi National Highway. Following this, a patrol team conducted checks on the highway. They noticed a youth standing suspiciously in front of a bakery. The team questioned him, but as he gave contradictory replies, police searched him and found 200 gram of ganja in his possession.The youth was taken to the police station for further inquiry. During interrogation, Sivasakthi told police that he had kept more ganja in his room. Police searched his room and seized 9 kg of ganja from there. Further inquiries revealed that he had procured ganja from Chennai with the help of Gokul and Akilan and was supplying it to college students and others in and around Coimbatore.The Podanur police registered a case under Section 8(c) read with 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and Section 123 of BNS. He was remanded in judicial custody.
