Udupi: The Udupi city municipal council has directed residents not to release wastewater from houses, apartments and commercial buildings into stormwater drains meant for rainwater flow. The public has been directed to construct soak pits within their premises and dispose of wastewater in accordance with regulations. The municipal authorities have warned that strict action will be taken under the Municipal Act against those who violate the rules and discharge contaminated water into drains, as it poses a risk to public health.The CMC has also observed that daily waste generated from households, apartments and commercial establishments, including garden waste, is being dumped in public places and along roadsides, affecting sanitation and cleanliness in the city.Residents have been advised to compost wet waste within their premises wherever possible. In case of any difficulty, the waste should be handed over to the municipal waste collection vehicles. The CMC has cautioned that action will be taken against those found dumping waste in public spaces, according to a release from the Municipal Commissioner’s office.
