Bettiah: A 17-year-old Class 12 student was found hanging in his room at a lodge near Piuni Bagh Shiv Temple under the Bettiah Town police station area of West Champaran district on Thursday.Police identified the deceased as Shivam Kumar, a resident of Ramnagar Bankat village under the Majhaulia police station area. He had been staying at the lodge in Bettiah for the past two months for his studies along with other students.The incident came to light after locals alerted the authorities about a suspected suicide. When a police team reached the spot, the student was found hanging inside the room.Bettiah Sadar SDPO Vivek Deep said the victim’s friends, who were staying with him, have fled, leaving the room open. Their role is being examined as part of the investigation.“Given the seriousness of the case, a dog squad and a forensic science laboratory (FSL) team were called to the spot to collect evidence. Police are also questioning nearby residents and people associated with the lodge to ascertain the sequence of events,” he said.Deep added that the case is being investigated from all angles. The body has been sent to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem. “The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report. Further investigation is underway,” the SDPO said.
