Ahmedabad: Girish Vanzara, a resident of Asarva, was elated on Saturday after receiving a BJP ticket to contest from the Asarva seat. Vanzara is well known within the Civil Hospital campus, where he works as a relationship officer. “I have been associated with the BJP as a Yuva Karyakarta (young worker) for nearly 15 years. I witnessed major events such as the Covid-19 pandemic and the AI171 aeroplane crash at the hospital and have tried to assist citizens to the best of my ability,” he said. “My key priority for the area will be replacing decades-old sewage and water pipelines.” With Saturday being the last date for withdrawal of nominations, candidates remaining in the fray have begun preparing for the civic elections. In the Meghaninagar area, Dashrath Bhobhi, an auto-rickshaw driver, has secured a party ticket to contest the polls. “This time, grassroots workers have been given tickets on some key seats. It will be interesting to see how closely fought the contest will be,” a political observer said.
