Ahmedabad: The primary education department has reopened the approval process for setting up new private primary schools and adding classes in existing institutions for the academic year beginning June 2026.According to the latest announcement, institutions can submit online applications between April 8 and April 15. Trusts, societies and companies planning to start new primary schools or expand existing ones by adding classes from Classes 1 to 5 or Classes 6 to 8 will have to apply through the designated online portal. The entire process has been made digital to ensure transparency and administrative efficiency. Officials have clarified that applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered and have urged institutions to complete the procedure within the stipulated timeframe. Detailed guidelines, a list of required documents, and step-by-step instructions were uploaded to the portal on April 4. Earlier, the application process had been announced on Dec 4, 2025, but several institutions failed to apply within the prescribed period, resulting in repeated requests to reopen the approval window. The move is expected to benefit institutions planning to start new schools and allow existing schools to meet increasing student enrolment by introducing additional classes.
