Ahmedabad: A 35-year-old woman from Chandkheda has lodged a complaint alleging prolonged harassment, physical violence and dowry-related demands by her husband and in-laws following her marriage in 2016.According to the complaint filed with the Chandkheda police, the woman claimed that soon after the marriage, her husband began subjecting her to suspicion and restrictions, allegedly not allowing her to step outside the house. She further alleged that her mother-in-law and father-in-law supported his actions and began harassing her over household issues. The woman alleged that during her pregnancy, her husband did not provide support and that expenses related to the birth of her daughter were borne by her parents. She claimed that after returning to her matrimonial home, her husband demanded money, telling her to bring money from her father’s house, according to the complaint. She stated that her father allegedly transferred Rs 4 lakh to her husband’s account towards the purchase of a house. She further alleged that after incurring losses in share trading, her husband repeatedly sought additional money and asked her to bring her mother’s jewellery. The complaint stated that her mother handed over a gold necklace, but the alleged harassment continued. The complainant also accused her husband of taking personal loans using her identity documents without her consent. She alleged that in Jan 2021, she was assaulted by her husband, in-laws and relatives and was “pushed out of the house.” Despite multiple reconciliation attempts by family members and community elders, no resolution was reached. The woman subsequently approached the police and filed a complaint on Friday.
