Times News NetworkKanpur: Despite rainfall on Thursday evening, residents of the city continued to grapple with humid and sultry weather conditions on Friday. The city received around 14.7 mm of rainfall during Thursday evening and late night, while overcast skies made the morning comparatively pleasant. However, the relief was short-lived as sunshine returned by noon, causing temperatures to rise and the pleasant weather to disappear. The maximum temperature in the city was recorded at 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature dropped to 23.8 degrees Celsius during the night.High humidity levels added to the discomfort, with the maximum relative humidity touching 85 per cent. North-westerly winds blowing at speeds ranging between 6.3 kmph and 14.7 kmph failed to provide respite from the muggy conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast partly cloudy skies along with light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across all six districts of the Kanpur division during the next 24 hours. During this period, the maximum temperature is expected to remain between 33°C and 35°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to range between 27°C and 29°C. Meteorologists have indicated that humidity levels will remain high due to active monsoon conditions. For Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat, the weather department has predicted cloudy skies throughout the day with a 30 to 40 per cent probability of thundershowers in some areas during the afternoon or night. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 34°C and the minimum around 28°C. Westerly winds blowing at 8 to 12 kmph may further intensify humid conditions.According to information received through the ‘Sachet’ application, an orange alert has been issued for several districts, including Banda, Chitrakoot, Fatehpur, Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Unnao, Bahraich, Barabanki, Lakhimpur Kheri and Sitapur, indicating a high probability of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and strong winds of 30 to 40 kmph in the next three hours.Weather expert Dr. SN Sunil Pandey of Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology said that due to increased atmospheric moisture and enhanced moisture inflow, the Kanpur division is likely to witness cloudy skies between July 18 and July 19. He predicted light to moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds, thunderstorms, lightning and scattered drizzles in isolated pockets, particularly during the evening hours.Pandey further cautioned that strong surface winds may also occur during this period and, if sunshine breaks through the clouds, hot and humid conditions are likely to intensify across the region.
