Patna: LJP(RV) president and Union minister Chirag Paswan on Monday attacked Congress MP Rahul Gandhi over the opposition’s Supreme Court march. “You roamed around holding the Constitution copy in hand, yet the lesson of the Constitution was finally taught to you today by Chief Justice of India,” he posted on X, while referring to CJI Surya Kant’s reply on seeking an appointment with him over the SIR issue.Congress staged a march to Supreme Court on Monday regarding the SIR after the opposition wanted to meet the CJI to submit a memorandum, but the CJI clarified that a meeting was not possible as the matter is currently sub judice.“You set out with a memorandum, returned with a lesson from the CJI. Justice is sought through a court petition, not a memorandum. When arguments didn’t hold in court, now pressure on the court from the streets?” Chirag said while addressing his post to Rahul Gandhi.BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi also questioned the opposition and termed their Supreme Court march a “childish attempt to put political pressure on the judiciary”.Saraogi said, “The country’s Supreme Court is not a platform for political rallies. It’s an immature act. The CJI has already said that your case can be heard in court and that you should present your legal arguments there.”The CJI, in his reply to a letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, stated: “At the very outset, it may be noted that the issues referred to hereinabove are already subjudice before the Supreme Court of India. Therefore, convening a meeting to discuss pending cases would wholly contravene the principle of Separation of Powers, an intrinsic facet of the basic structure doctrine of the Constitution of India, and would be incompatible with the established ethics and judicial propriety.”
