Kolkata: The Chinese film festival returned to Nandan after a decade on Friday. The festival, inaugurated by Chinese consul general Xu Wei, will continue till Sunday.The last time a Chinese film festival was held in Kolkata was in 2016.The opening film, ‘Xuan Zang’, is a 2016 Sino-Indian co-production on a young monk’s journey to India to study the life of Gautam Buddha. It was screened after the festival’s inauguration at 7 pm on Friday. Six award-winning films on a variety of subjects will be screened at Nandan 1 on Saturday and Sunday, and seating will be free and on a first-come, first-served basis.Among the films to be screened is ‘Creation of Gods 1: Kingdom of Storms’ (2023), a mythological epic that is a visual extravaganza. “It is hailed as China’s ‘Lord of the Rings’,” the consul general said of the film that will be screened at 6.30 pm on Saturday.
