Patna: The weaker section under the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Bihar Police on Friday opened a child help desk/child corner at every police station across the state. The initiative aims to transform police stations into sensitive, fearless and supportive spaces for children seeking assistance or reporting issues. The new facility operates under the legal framework of Section 8(5) of the Bihar Police Act, 2007, and adheres to guidelines set by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).Every police station across the state has established a designated Child Help Desk or Child Corner, operating under the motto “Children’s Safety, Our Priority”.To ensure a welcoming and non-intimidating environment, each desk is situated in a clearly visible area within the station compound, physically separate from lock-up areas.According to a statement issued by Bihar police headquarters (PHQ), “Each Child Help Desk is spearheaded by a trained child welfare police officer (CWPO). Additionally, qualified female personnel are deployed to communicate with and resolve issues specifically concerning young girls.”Contact details of designated officers are displayed on signboards and flex banners, ensuring 24/7 availability for urgent assistance to children, parents or guardians. All incoming complaints will be registered, tracked and resolved within a set time frame.“Case registers and CWPO duties will be regularly monitored by senior officers, including the DSP in charge of Special Crime and Special Juvenile Police Units,” the PHQ statement added.
