Surat: Chikhli police on Thursday seized a consignment of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 16.89 lakh from a tempo in Degam village of Navsari district. An FIR has been registered against four persons under relevant sections of the Gujarat Prohibition Act and one accused has been arrested, police said.Acting on a tip-off, a surveillance team led by Chikhli police inspector P B Pateliya intercepted a tempo bearing registration number MH-48-AG-3329 near a railway overbridge opposite Metro Hotel on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway.During the search, police recovered 269 boxes containing 7,056 bottles and cans of whisky and beer, with the total quantity estimated at 3,144 litres.Police also seized the tempo, estimated to be worth around Rs 10 lakh, along with a mobile phone.The arrested accused Satyam Prajapat (23) is a native of Jalaun district in Uttar Pradesh who is currently residing in Daman, police said. He was apprehended at the spot.Police said the other suspects who are wanted include a person identified as Shuklabhai, who supplied the tempo, an associate who allegedly placed the order for the liquor consignment in Vadodara and the current owner of the vehicle. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the liquor, police added.
