Chandigarh: The UT Police Operation Cell, in coordination with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF), carried out a surprise security and combing operation at Chandigarh railway station.Joint teams conducted extensive checks of passenger coaches, waiting halls, parking areas, and parcel sections. Luggage was inspected, suspicious persons were questioned, and commercial parcels were verified to detect any unlawful activity. The operation aimed to maintain vigilance at one of the region’s busiest transit hubs and prevent anti-social elements from exploiting public spaces.DSP Vikas Seokand of the Operation Cell said such surprise checks are conducted periodically to enhance security preparedness and maintain visible police presence in crowded public places.“Railway stations witness large daily footfall and remain sensitive locations from a security perspective. Regular checking drives help us identify suspicious activities, verify unattended belongings, and ensure passenger safety. The public is requested to cooperate with security agencies and immediately report any suspicious person or unattended object,” he said.Police officials added that similar operations will continue, particularly during heightened security alerts, major public events, and festive seasons. Authorities have urged commuters to remain vigilant and follow security guidelines while travelling.
