Chandrapur: Govt Medical College and Hospital in Chandrapur has come under scrutiny with MLA Kishore Jorgewar reportedly noticing serious lapses in cleanliness, staff attendance, patient amenities and safety arrangements.The MLA, who carried out an inspection of the GMCH on Friday, expressed displeasure over unhygienic conditions at some places, non-functional air conditioners and complaints about staff absenteeism. He directed the hospital administration to ensure regular cleanliness checks and take action against employees who fail to discharge their responsibilities.Jorgewar also questioned why toilets in the hospital were reportedly available only until 8 pm. He ordered that toilets remain accessible to patients and attendants 24 hours a day.Officials were directed to ensure that fire extinguishers, firefighting systems, emergency exits and electrical installations are regularly inspected and kept operational. Doctors, nurses and other staff were instructed to provide proper information about treatment to patients and relatives.He also called for adequate availability of safe drinking water, regular cleaning of water kiosks and periodic quality testing. The MLA also announced that he would arrange funds needed for setting up a human milk bank for newborns at the hospital.
