Amravati: Tribal students, who have been protesting for the last several days for various demands, took an aggressive stand on Friday. The students had warned that they will launch an agitation in front of tribal development minister Dr Ashok Uike’s residence in Yavatmal from Friday if their demands were not met.Hundreds of students have set out on foot towards Yavatmal. To pacify them, MP Balwant Wankhade, former MLA Virendra Jagtap, along with district collector Ashish Yerekar and rural SP Niketan Kadam, reached Deogaon Road.The tribal students started an indefinite sit-in agitation in front of the additional commissionerate of the tribal development department in Amravati. Officers had held discussions with the students regarding their demands, but no solution could be found. They said that some of the students’ demands are at the government level and other demands have been accepted, so the students decided to march on foot to Yavatmal.To pacify the agitating students, Congress MP Balwant Wankhade and former MLA Virendra Jagtap tried to convince the students that they can reach Yavatmal by private vehicles arranged by them, but the students were adamant on going on foot. The administration said that it was not appropriate for the students to walk, and that the tribal development minister is ready to discuss their demands, but the students are firm on walking.
