Chandigarh: The BJP office in Chandigarh’s Sector 33 received a bomb threat on Friday, prompting police to step up security. This comes less than four months after a grenade blast at the party’s Sector 37 office.The email warned of blasts at the ‘BJP state office Chandigarh @ 1.11pm’ (the same time mentioned in a string of recent hoaxes) and in cities where Friday’s Punjab bandh was not observed. It lauded Dilawar Singh Babbar — the assassin who blew up then Punjab CM Beant Singh — and demanded that schools be shut on Aug 31, the anniversary of the assassination. It contained references to Khalistan and named certain individuals allegedly linked to Khalistan National Army and Babbar Khalsa. TPolice and security agencies are trying to identify the sender, trace the origin and see whether the sender really has any links with the organisations mentioned in the message.
