TRhe state govt has announced ADTTs in Chamarajanagar, Honnavar and Chitradurga at a cost of Rs 20 crore.

Mysuru: The Chamarajanagar district administration has stepped up efforts to identify land for establishing an Automated Driving Test Track (ADTT) in Chamarajanagar town. The state govt recently announced plans to set up ADTTs in Chamarajanagar, Honnavar, and Chitradurga at a cost of Rs 20 crore. Following the announcement, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), headed by the deputy commissioner, has intensified efforts to locate suitable land for the facility. The ADTT uses sensors, video analytics, RFID technology, and cameras to evaluate applicants’ driving skills, eliminating human intervention. The system accurately assesses driving competence, helps keep unskilled drivers off the roads, and replaces outdated manual inspection methods.Under the ADTT system, the process of issuing driving licences is automated by testing and recording drivers’ skills in a completely technology-driven environment. The rigorous automated test assesses drivers’ abilities before they are granted a driving licence.Officials said the technology ensures accurate evaluation of driving tests, prevents human intervention, and leaves no scope for manipulation.Earlier, the RTA had identified private land at Sannegowdanahundi, about 18km from the district headquarters, for the establishment of the ADTT. However, following objections from the Chamarajanagar District Truck Owners Association and other organisations, the district administration shelved the proposal and began searching for an alternative site.Speaking to TOI, Chamarajanagar DC hreeroopa said directions had been issued to the RTA office to identify an alternative location following public objections to the proposed site at Sannegowdanahundi.Chamarajanagar District Truck Owners Association president Narayanprasad said the association had urged the RTA to establish the ADTT on govt land available near the University of Chamarajanagar campus. The proposed site is about 4km from the district headquarters and the RTO office and offers better road connectivity and easier public access.
