Times News NetworkKanpur: Chairperson of National Commission for Backward Classes Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti on Saturday reviewed the district-wise progress of welfare schemes for backward classes with officials of all six districts of Kanpur division in a meeting held at the auditorium of the divisional commissioner camp office.She instructed the officials to ensure wide publicity of schemes so that its benefits reached every eligible person in a time-bound and transparent manner. She said the objective of the schemes would be meaningful only when eligible beneficiaries were identified in a time-bound manner and linked to the facilities being provided by the government. She told the officials to ensure transparency, sensitivity and accountability in implementation of schemes.She said the scholarship amount should reach the accounts of eligible students on time so that financial hardship does not obstruct education and they complete studies without interruption. The state govt, she said, provides scholarships to eligible male and female students studying in various educational institutions, including medical colleges, engineering colleges and govt polytechnics.Appreciating the marriage grant scheme for poor and destitute girls run by the Backward Class Welfare Department, she said it was an important support for economically weaker families.Divisional commissioner K Vijayendra Pandian assured the chairperson that the officials would comply with her instructions.Officials of the departments concerned from all six districts of Kanpur division were present at the meeting.
