Kendrapada: The Centre released Rs 1,760.71 crore to Odisha under the National Health Mission (NHM) in 2025-26, whereas the state received Rs 1,916.79 crore in the 2024-25 financial year from the centre under NHM, said minister of state, health and family welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.While replying to a question from Pradeep Purohit, the minister said ‘Public Health and Hospital’ is a state subject. The primary responsibility of strengthening the public healthcare system, including infrastructure, healthcare manpower and service delivery, lies with the respective states/union territories (UTs), including Odisha.However, under the National Health Mission (NHM), ministry of health and family welfare provides technical and financial support to the states/UTs, including Odisha, to strengthen the public healthcare system based on the proposals received in the form of Programme Implementation Plans (PIPs). Govt of India approves the proposal in the form of record of proceedings (RoPs) as per norms and available resources.
