Hyderabad: Peddapalli MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna on Tuesday accused the Centre of neglecting the Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (RFCL) because of which the plant operated at only 70% capacity. The Congress MP explained that the system was designed to supply urea to Telangana through RFCL and to distribute fertilisers to other states across the country. However, he alleged that under the current BJP govt at the Centre, chaos prevailed in the management of urea. “Farmers are facing difficulties due to a failure to conduct proper imports and a failure to fully utilise existing production capacities. This situation is causing severe losses to the farmers of Telangana and they will continue their protests against it,” he said.Stating that he wrote letters to Union chemicals and fertilizers minister JP Nadda, highlighting the mismanagement and negligence, and even met the minister personally to explain these issues, but no positive action was taken, he claimed.RFCL Ramagundam unit is currently not utilising its full production capacity, with operations continuing at only approximately 70%. Since the organisation’s headquarters is currently located in Delhi, local issues are not receiving adequate attention. Consequently, he submitted numerous letters and appeals requesting that the headquarters be relocated to Hyderabad, the Congress MP added.“But the central govt did not respond positively to this request and officially conveyed via a letter that there is no possibility of relocating the headquarters. This decision would further adversely impact the management of the organisation,” he claimed.Vamsi recalled that in the past, former Union minister G Venkataswamy held discussions with the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to revive the RFCL unit, which was previously shut down.He further noted that subsequently, during his tenure as MP, and current Telangana labour minister Vivek Venkataswamy also put in immense effort to bring the organisation back into production. He stated that this organisation provided employment opportunities to many local youth.RFCL Ramagundam, a 6,338 crore urea plant commissioned in 2021 under the Modi govt, faced multiple issues, including ammonia pipeline defects in Aug 2025, leading to production halts, he claimed.
