New Delhi: Only 57% of trees transplanted for the Central Vista redevelopment project in Delhi have survived, govt informed Lok Sabha on Thursday. In a written reply, housing and urban affairs ministry told the LS that 3,609 trees were transplanted as part of the project and 1,545 of these died post-transplantation.Data provided by the ministry in response to a question by TMC MP Mahua Moitra showed that from the new Parliament building site, 402 trees were transplanted to NTPC Eco Park in Badarpur and the Parliament House complex, while 38 trees from General Pool Office Accommodation (GPOA-2) were shifted to the Yamuna riverbank.Another 1,734 trees from the Common Central Secretariat buildings 1, 2 and 3 were relocated to NTPC Eco Park. Similarly, 390 trees from the Vice President’s Enclave were transplanted to NTPC Eco Park and within the enclave area.On the expenditure incurred on transplantation and afforestation over the years, the ministry said Rs 35.9 lakh was spent in 2023-24 and Rs 122.9 lakh in 2024-25. The allocation saw a rise to Rs 370.3 lakh in 2025-26. TNN
