Kolkata: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday alleged that central forces attempted to search her car while she was on her way to the Kolkata airport earlier in the day. She further claimed that Union ministers arriving from New Delhi were “bringing cash in vehicles of the central forces.”

On a day when Trinamool Congress wrote to CEC Gyanesh Kumar alleging selective vehicle checks by the Election Commission of India involving Abhishek Banerjee and his wife to target them, Banerjee, while addressing a rally in Islampur in North Dinajpur district, said, “At Kolkata airport, central forces approached my vehicle. I told them to check it. If vehicles of all Trinamool leaders are being checked, why should the Prime Minister’s and home minister’s vehicles move unchecked? CAPF vehicles should also be checked. Is only Trinamool being targeted?”

West Bengal CEO Manoj Kumar Agarwal said, “I have not heard about this. When a VVIP vehicle is searched, we get the information. DGP, chief secretary, home secretary had come to CEO’s office for a meeting but I did not hear anything of the sort. When there is any such VVIP search, a proper method is followed. CAPF assists in the search but never does it on their own.”

On the occasion of Poila Boishakh, PM Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, and CM Banerjee extended greetings to the people. While the PM wrote a letter to Bengalis marking the Bengali New Year, Banerjee, in a video message, alleged that BJP was issuing threats from Delhi and that BJP and ECI were using agencies to harass people in Bengal through voter deletions.
Calling upon voters to support the Trinamool in the polls, Banerjee urged the electorate to give a befitting reply to what she described as attempts by the “zamindars in Delhi” to snatch away people’s voting rights.Banerjee hits out at Guv, FM

In a sharp attack, Banerjee said that the “Laat-Sahab” of Bengal, who “lives in a palace,” had insulted her – an apparent reference to the Governor of West Bengal, who on Wednesday said that the state’s per capita income had declined and that Bengal ranked 16th among states, with 15 states ahead. The Governor had also called upon the youth to bring about “Parivartan” (change). “Instead of greeting the people of Bengal, he is abusing me,” the CM said.

Hitting out at Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and PM, Banerjee said, “I respect the office of the PM, but the person occupying that office should not lie. During the elections, cards are being distributed by the Union finance minister. I will urge the ECI to take strict action against her and others who are misleading people by misusing their power. I have seen their programme. Why were these cards distributed just before the polls?”
