New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a head constable of Delhi Police’s Anti-Narcotic Cell, Dwarka, for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 15 lakh from a woman, officials said on Wednesday.The cop, identified as Ajay, was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 2 lakh during a trap laid by the agency. Subsequent searches led to the recovery of Rs 48.9 lakh in cash from his office premisesAccording to the CBI, the case was registered on Tuesday against the head constable and other unidentified persons following a complaint by the woman. She alleged that Ajay and others had demanded Rs 15 lakh in exchange for not falsely implicating her in a criminal case.As per the complaint, Ajay had asked for an initial payment of Rs 5 lakh by Tuesday. Acting on the information, the CBI laid a trap the same day and caught the head constable while he was demanding and accepting Rs 2 lakh as part payment of the bribe.After the arrest, the agency conducted searches at the accused’s office, during which Rs 48.9 lakh in cash was seized. Officials said the source of the recovered money is yet to be ascertained and is being investigated for possible links to the alleged bribery.The CBI said further investigation is underway to identify the role of other individuals named in the complaint and to determine the extent of the alleged corruption network.In a similar case earlier this Feb, the CBI had arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Delhi Police posted at CR Park police station for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh. The ASI was accused of seeking Rs 25 lakh to settle a property dispute and allegedly assured the complainant that no legal action would be taken.
