Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch, probing the lynching of railway constable Soumya Ranjan Swain in Balianta on May 7, subjected his friend Om Prakash Rout to a polygraph test on Friday.Rout, considered a key witness, was riding his motorcycle with Swain as pillion when their two-wheeler allegedly collided with a woman’s scooter. The woman later alleged that Swain assaulted her and attempted to rape her after she fell. The claim sparked mob fury, culminating in Swain’s lynching.“Swain’s mother has been suspecting Rout’s role. Since she has been smelling a conspiracy, we opted for his lie detector test. The findings are awaited,” IGP (crime branch) Sarthak Sarangi said.
