Bhubaneswar: Coinciding with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s India tour, Odisha govt on Friday signed a memorandum of cooperation with Tokyo-headquartered IHI Corporation and Gurgaon-based ACME Group for clean energy projects, entailing an investment of Rs 67,000 crore. The projects, aimed at promoting advanced manufacturing and industrial development, are expected to generate around 7,000 jobs.The investment plans include a 0.4 MTPA green ammonia project at Gopalpur-Tata SEZ, with an outlay of Rs 20,000 crore and the potential to employ 3,400 people. The project will be supported by a jetty-less floating terminal infrastructure involving an additional investment of Rs 1,000 crore.A second 0.8 MTPA green ammonia project is proposed at Paradip with an investment of Rs 34,000 crore and an employment potential of 3,600. The joint venture also plans to set up a methanol project involving an investment of Rs 12,000 crore.Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi said Japan has been one of India’s most trusted development and investment partners, recognised globally for technological excellence, innovation and long-term commitment. “The signing of this memorandum of cooperation marks another important milestone in Odisha’s industrial journey. We welcome Japanese enterprises to partner with us in building globally competitive industries that create quality employment, foster technology transfer and contribute towards Samruddha Odisha 2036 and Viksit Bharat 2047,” he said.Industries minister Sampad Chandra Swain said Odisha offers a conducive environment for global investors through progressive policies, robust infrastructure and responsive governance. “The govt remains committed to providing seamless facilitation to ensure that partnerships such as this are translated into successful projects on the ground,” he said.Govt officials said the collaboration is expected to facilitate technology transfer, promote sustainable industrialisation and create significant economic opportunities in the state.Hiroshi Ide, representative director and president of IHI Corporation, said Odisha offers a compelling combination of industrial capability, strategic location, abundant natural resources and a strong commitment to sustainable industrial development. “The company looks forward to working with the Odisha govt and ACME Group to explore opportunities leveraging Japanese technology and engineering expertise for India’s clean energy transition,” he said.ACME Group founder and chairman Manoj Upadhyay said the partnership brings together policy support, world-class technology and project development expertise to explore next-generation green energy solutions. He expressed confidence that Odisha’s industrial ecosystem and infrastructure would provide a strong foundation for creating sustainable economic value and employment, and for strengthening India’s position in the global clean energy value chain.The interaction with Japanese business delegates, including senior leaders from IHI Corporation, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company Inc and other leading enterprises, served as a platform to deepen economic engagement between Odisha and Japan, and showcase the state’s expanding industrial ecosystem, infrastructure and investor-friendly policies. Discussions also focused on opportunities in advanced manufacturing, aerospace, shipbuilding, machinery, steel, chemicals, logistics, industrial infrastructure and renewable energy.Top executives from ACME Group, officials of the Japanese Embassy, industry associations and representatives of major industries also attended the programme.
