Mangaluru: The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) Surathkal hosted the Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC MLORE-11) from July 1 to 10. The inauguration ceremony was held on July 2. The camp brought together approximately 555 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets, drawn from 18 Kar, 19 Kar, 20 Kar, 21 Kar, 5 Naval Unit, 6 Naval Unit, 6 Air Squadron, 2 Kar Engineer Company, and 4 Kar Engineer Company, under NCC Group Headquarters, Mangaluru. The camp was led by group commander Col Viraj Kamath and commanding officer Lt Col Nikhil Khullar.The training curriculum covered physical training, drill practice, weapon training, and live firing, along with ground skills including map reading, judging distance, and field craft & battle craft. Cadets underwent preparation sessions for the NCC B and C certificate examinations. The camp also included group-level Services Selection Board (SSB) coaching, and 92 cadets were shortlisted for the directorate-level Thal Sainik Camp (TSC).A cyber training session was conducted by Purushothama BR, department of information technology, NITK Surathkal. Cadets also took part in environmental conservation, social service, and community development activities during the camp.Senior division/wing cadets were assigned responsibilities such as maintaining squad discipline, conducting roll calls, and assisting associate NCC officers (ANOs) and permanent instructional (PI) staff. ANOs at the camp included Capt P Sam Johnson (2 KEC), Capt H Shivananda Nayaka (2 KEC), Lt Yathish Kumar (2 KEC), Lt Hatikanth (18 Kar Bn), Sub Lt Prashant Kamath (6 Naval Unit), and S/O Madhushree (18 Kar Bn).Col Viraj Kamath, group commander, NCC Group Mangaluru, visited the camp on July 7. Training and camp activities were held across LHC-D, Silver Jubilee Auditorium, Mega Mess, hostels, volleyball courts, and the old sports complex on the NITK campus.
