CHANDIGARH: Ghee will no longer be marketed in different forms – as ‘ghee for havan’, ‘ghee for puja’ – Haryana govt said Wednesday even as it banned sale of margarine as ‘makhan’ and analogue paneer for a year. All ghee products must pass FSSAI standards, govt ordered in a move aimed at preventing adulteration and protecting consumers from misleading food products.The restrictions, imposed under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, prohibit manufacture, processing, storage, transportation and sale of analogue or non-dairy paneer. Hotels, restaurants, caterers, eateries and cloud kitchens will also not be allowed to use, prepare, serve, store or sell such paneer in food preparations.Govt also barred sale or serving of margarine or vegetable fat spreads by passing them off as butter. Margarine will have to be clearly identified as such or ‘vegetable fat spread’. These orders were issued after food safety officers found high proportion of non-compliant samples during recent checks. TNN
