Silchar: Cachar administration on Monday issued a flood advisory as the Barak river rose amid incessant rain and an IMD heavy-rain forecast for Assam.The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) said the weather increased the risk of flooding, flash floods and urban waterlogging in vulnerable areas. Low-lying localities may face flood-like conditions if the rain continues, officials said.The administration said it was monitoring the situation round the clock and put all departments, emergency agencies and field officials on alert. Preparedness measures are in place for a swift response, it added.Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel through low-lying, flood-prone or waterlogged areas and stay away from rivers, streams, drains, culverts and inundated stretches. The DDMA warned against walking, riding or driving through flooded roads, which may conceal open drains, damaged stretches and other hazards.Households should switch off power if floodwater enters homes and move appliances, documents and valuables to higher ground. People in flood-prone areas should be ready for evacuation and cooperate with emergency teams.Families should keep emergency kits with dry food, drinking water, medicines, torches, batteries and documents. Residents should follow official advisories, keep phones charged and avoid spreading rumours.
