NOIDA: A 21-year-old woman died after jumping from the balcony of a 28th-floor high-rise society in Sector 32 early on Sunday. Preliminary inquiry suggests she took the extreme step after being scolded by her parents over an undiclosed issue.No suicide note has been recovered from the spot. Police said the exact reason over the dispute would be ascertained after recording the statements of the grieving family members. No complaint has been received yet but further investigation is underway, an officer said.According to police, the deceased, Arpita, a resident of Block-D in Wave Amore society, was a second-year student of BTech at a university in Punjab. The deceased’s elder sister also studies in the same college. Originally from Basti in Uttar Pradesh, the family stays in a rented apartment in the society. Her father is a businessman.SK Tomar, the SHO of Sector 24 police station which is probing the case, said that around 12.20am on Sunday, when her parents and sister had gone to their rooms to sleep, Arpita went to the balcony of the drawing room and jumped to her death.“The security guard on duty at the tower heard a sound of something falling and immediately rushed to check it. He found the woman lying in a pool of blood. He informed the society’s residents, who reported it to police. However, by the time a police team had reached the spot, the woman had died,” he said. The body has been sent for an autopsy and the results are awaited, he added.“During the investigation, it came to light that around two to three days back, both sisters came home and her parents scolded her on Saturday over an issue before going to sleep. According to her family members, she had been upset since then and no amount of counselling had calmed her,” the SHO said.
