BALLIA: A wedding procession in Bihar’s Ballia district ended without a marriage after the bride allegedly refused to go ahead with the ceremony over a saree brought by the groom’s family, police said. The incident took place on May 11 at the Panchrukhi Devi temple in Gayghat village under Revti police station, where the wedding ceremony had been organised. Police said the marriage had been arranged between Niki, daughter of Ajay Gond from Dalan Chhapra village, and Vishal Gond, son of Pawan Gond from Mahadanpur village. According to deputy superintendent of police Mohammad Fahim Qureshi, the dispute began during the ceremony when the bride objected to a saree brought by the groom’s side, calling it “unsuitable”. Police said she then refused to continue with the marriage rituals. The disagreement escalated into a clash between members of the two families, during which the bride’s brother Jeet Nath Gond, her mother Umrawati Devi and another woman, Lakshmi Devi, were injured, police said. Following the incident, the wedding procession returned without the marriage being solemnised. A case has been registered based on a complaint filed by the bride’s father, Ajay Gond. The complaint names the groom Vishal, along with his relatives Pawan, Manoj, Hareram and four to six unidentified people. Police said further investigation is underway.
