Udupi: Hebri police have registered a case against a bookkeeper for allegedly misappropriating over Rs 28 lakh from a gram panchayat-level Sanjeevini Okkoota.The complaint was filed by Uma, taluk programme manager of the Sanjeevini Okkoota at Hebri taluk panchayat. The accused, Nandini, had reportedly been working as the federation’s master bookkeeper for eight years.According to the complaint, members of various self-help groups affiliated with the federation repaid their loans between 2020 and 2026, but Nandini allegedly failed to deposit the money into the federation’s account. She allegedly maintained duplicate account and receipt books, fabricated documents and forged the signatures of the federation’s president and secretary.The complaint alleges that she misappropriated Rs 28,19,489 for personal use, thereby committing criminal breach of trust and cheating. Hebri police registered a case under sections 316(4), 318(2), 336(3) and 340(2) of BNS.
