Bokaro: Police arrested 94 absconding accused during a districtwide overnight crackdown, carrying out 222 raids with 74 teams comprising around 250 officers and personnel.The operation was launched on the directions of SP Nathu Singh Meena as part of a special drive to trace wanted accused and warrant offenders. Police teams from different stations and outposts raided identified locations through the night.Of the 94 arrested, 55 were released after producing recall orders before police. The remaining 39 were sent to judicial custody on Sunday after completion of legal formalities.Police said the drive was part of stepped-up security measures during the festive season, including Durga Puja, to prevent wanted offenders from taking advantage of large crowds.“Such special drives are being conducted to ensure that absconders and warrant offenders do not pose a threat to law and order during the festive season. Our focus is on strengthening security and taking timely action against those wanted in pending cases,” Meena said.Among the major arrests was Ashok Kumar Sharma, a permanent warrant offender who had been absconding since 2012. Chas police arrested Sharma, a resident of Yaduvansh Nagar, in connection with a pending case. He was later sent to judicial custody.In Jaridih, police arrested five accused who had allegedly been absconding since 2023 in a murder case. They were identified as Kuldeep Singh, Sita Devi, Pramila Devi, Kunu Manjhi and Jageshwar Manjhi. All five were sent to judicial custody.Mahuatand police also arrested Sukhdev Manjhi, a resident of Baraiya village, who had allegedly been absconding since 2018 in a murder case. Police said a court had issued a property attachment order against him.
