The accused students have been given 48 hours to submit their responses

Jamshedpur: Eight students of the 2025-26 batch at govt-run Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) have accused 15 seniors from the 2023-24 and 2024-25 batches of ragging, alleging the use of objectionable language, inappropriate remarks and mental harassment.The students reportedly submitted an online complaint to National Medical Commission (NMC) on Friday and also informed the college administration. They attached an audio clip as evidence. The college’s anti-ragging cell has found the recording prima facie authentic during a preliminary examination, officials said, adding that the allegations would be verified through a detailed inquiry.Following directions from NMC, Dhalbhum SDO Arnav Mishra and Patamda DSP Dayanand Prasad met the complainants on Saturday to record their statements, according to college officials. The accused students have been given 48 hours to submit their responses. A probe committee will be constituted thereafter.MGMMCH principal Sanjay Kumar said, “Following the receipt of the ragging complaint, an investigation has been initiated. Information has been obtained from the students, and the evidence submitted by them is also being examined. If the complaint is found to be genuine, action will be taken against the accused students as per the rules.”The college has reported similar complaints and disciplinary action in the past. On June 5, a first-year MBBS student complained to NMC of mental harassment and unauthorised interference in hostel room allotment. On Jan 13, 2024, three students of the 2019 batch were expelled from the hostel on ragging charges and fined Rs 25,000 each.On April 15, 2024, five girls from the 2022 batch were reprimanded for allegedly assaulting female students from their own batch. Eight days later, a 2021-batch student was suspended from classes for 15 days for allegedly harassing a junior. On July 3, 2024, nine second-year students accused fourth-year students of harassment.
