Kanpur: The body of a 15-year-old girl, who drowned while bathing in the Bhogneepur canal in Dharmapura village of Etawah district was recovered on Saturday morning.According to police, the deceased, Upasana, along with her friends Nidhi (10), Chhaya (18), Diksha (16) had gone to dump waste in the fields after which they started bathing in the canal. However, due to strong water current, they began to drown.A passerby, spotted the four drowning and jumped into the canal to save them. While he pulled out the other three girls safely, the deceased could not be traced.The family immediately informed Lavedi police station about the incident.Station in-charge Inspector, Anil Vishwakarma, reached the spot with force. He summoned private divers, the SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) team, and the fire brigade to begin the search for the victim. However, no trace of her was found until late Friday evening.On Saturday morning, the SDRF team launched a fresh search operation in the canal during which the girl’s body was recovered approximately 200 metres from the canal bridge. Police filled out the panchnama of the body and sent it for post-mortem.
