Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday passed Rs 1050 crore of annual budget for the 2026-27 fiscal at a special budget meeting held in the presence of mayor Sulochana Das.“This budget will greatly help in establishing Bhubaneswar as a healthy, prosperous, clean, green, beautiful and environment-friendly city with strong infrastructure. This is a people-oriented, comprehensive and suitable budget for everyone. In this budget, while BMC’s own income target is Rs 300 crore, it is projected that Rs 750 crore will be received from govt grants,” said the mayor after the presentation.
BMC mainly depends on central and state govt grants. Earlier, there were no conditions from either the central or state govt for this. But now the govt put a condition of 12.65 per cent annual income growth for grants. Therefore, for govt grants in the current financial year, BMC will have to increase its own income, BMC officials said. The total budget outlay is Rs 49 crore more than 2025-26, with a focus on sanitation. BMC officials said Rs 200 crore is set aside for sanitation, while the animal birth control (ABC) programme received Rs 12 crore. All planned and non-planned projects were allocated Rs 400 crore, while lighting and electrification were given Rs 40 crore, said a BMC officer.
