Varanasi: Banaras Locomotive Works and the Varanasi Municipal Corporation signed two important service agreements on Monday to implement scientific and eco-friendly solid waste management across the BLW township in accordance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.The service agreement documents were exchanged by BLW’s deputy chief engineer Saket and additional municipal commissioner, Durgesh Mishra, in the presence of BLW GM, Ashutosh Pant and municipal commissioner Himanshu Nagpal.Under the first agreement, bioremediation, scientific processing and safe disposal of the accumulated legacy waste will be undertaken at the BLW dump site. The second agreement, valid for one year, provides for collection, transportation and scientific processing of municipal solid waste generated daily within the BLW township. BLW will collect waste in designated bins, while VMC will carry out its transportation and processing on a fixed monthly service fee.The initiative marks a significant step towards achieving zero-landfill objectives, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and promoting a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Varanasi. Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to environmental protection and pledged to continue working together on sustainable waste management initiatives.Among those present were principal chief electrical engineer, Manish Kumar, principal chief mechanical engineer, Vivek Sheel, principal financial adviser, Muktesh Mittal, principal chief engineer, Shailendra Kumar Singh, DGM, Sagar, along with senior officers of BLW and VMC.
