Noida: An elderly couple, aged 86 and 83, was rescued by firefighters after a fire broke out in their flat’s balcony in Noida’s Sector 49 late on Thursday night. The couple was taken to a nearby hospital after they inhaled a lot of smoke and is reported to be in stable condition. The fire was extinguished within an hour.Chief fire officer (CFO) Pradeep Kumar Chaubey said the fire control room received information about the blaze on the fourth floor of an apartment complex around 9.30pm. Multiple fire units and cops from the Sector 49 police station were dispatched to the scene.News of the fire quickly spread throughout the apartment complex, triggering panic among residents. Many occupants rushed out of their homes and gathered in open areas as thick smoke began spreading through parts of the building.
The fire was doused within an hour
Rescue teams discovered that the couple were trapped in their flat and could not evacuate without assistance. The apartment was also locked from the inside and had become heavily filled with smoke, creating a life-threatening situation.Firefighters used hydraulic equipment and other specialised tools and cut through the apartment door to gain access and successfully rescue the couple. Following the evacuation, the couple was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation and first aid. Doctors later confirmed that their condition was stable and that they were out of danger.An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, officials said.
