Silchar: State BJP president Dilip Saikia on Saturday asked party workers to intensify booth-level mobilisation and voter outreach to secure a decisive mandate in the first Silchar Municipal Corporation (SMC) election, scheduled for Oct 3.Addressing a Karyakarta Sammelan organised by the BJP’s Cachar district committee at the Rajiv Bhavan auditorium, Saikia stressed the role of grassroots workers in the party’s campaign across the corporation’s 42 wards.The meeting was attended by state minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, BJP state organisational general secretary Ravindra Raju, ministers, public representatives and senior party functionaries.Saikia said the BJP was confident of securing a decisive mandate in the civic polls and pledged to give fresh momentum to Silchar’s development if voted to power.He asked party workers to strengthen voter connect at the ward and booth levels and take the BJP’s development agenda to every household.The meeting discussed the party’s strategy for the 42 wards, with an emphasis on strengthening booth-level organisation, expanding voter contact and taking the state govt’s development and welfare initiatives to residents.Addressing the gathering, Mallabaruah said the enthusiasm and commitment of party workers reflected the BJP’s organisational strength and expressed confidence that it would translate into a strong performance in the civic polls.The programme also marked Teachers’ Day, with distinguished teachers from the Barak Valley felicitated.The Oct 3 polls will be the first election to the 42-member SMC, nearly four years after the erstwhile Silchar Municipal Board was upgraded to a municipal corporation. Counting will be held on Oct 6.The nomination process, which began on Sept 2 at Govt Boys’ Higher Secondary School in Silchar, is under way. Candidates can submit their nomination papers between 11 am and 3 pm during the stipulated period, with separate rooms earmarked for different groups of wards to streamline the process.
