Bhubaneswar: BJP’s state executive committee on Sunday adopted a series of political resolutions hauling up opposition BJD and Congress on a range of national and Odisha-specific issues. The resolutions were passed at the end of the party’s two-day state executive committee meeting in Cuttack.CM Mohan Charan Majhi and BJP national general secretary (organisation) B L Santhosh addressed party members during the meeting, which reviewed organisational matters, assessed the implementation of welfare and development programmes of both the Centre and the state govt, and deliberated on strategies to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence ahead of future electoral contests.In its resolutions, the BJP accused opposition parties of spreading misinformation on several national issues and criticised their stand on matters such as India’s reported 7.8% GDP growth in the first quarter, the national song Vande Mataram, the Women’s Reservation Bill and the amendments to the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act.“Despite India’s economic growth rate reaching 7.8%, opposition parties are indulging in misinformation campaigns to malign the country,” the party said in a statement. “The Congress disrespected Vande Mataram and opposed the Women’s Reservation Bill, which reflected an anti-women mindset,” the BJP said.On Odisha-specific issues, the BJP intensified its attack on the previous BJD govt, alleging that files related to the commission of inquiry into the killing of VHP leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati had gone missing during its tenure. The party also accused the Congress in Odisha of functioning as the “B-team” of the BJD.Addressing party workers, Santhosh emphasised that “public service” (seva) remained the BJP’s guiding principle. He urged party members to work towards ensuring that welfare schemes and govt benefits reach the last person in the society.The resolutions drew sharp reactions from opposition parties. BJD MLA Dibya Sankar Mishra accused the BJP of attempting to deflect attention from shortcomings in governance. Congress functionaries also criticised the BJP’s approach, alleging that the executive committee meeting had become a platform for political attacks rather than discussions on governance and public issues.
