Bhubaneswar: Odisha vigilance sleuths on Monday arrested a revenue inspector and her assistant at Pipili in Puri district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 35,000 from a man for processing his land mutation case.The accused were identified as Kalyani Jena, revenue inspector, and Purna Chandra Behera, assistant revenue inspector, posted at Siula revenue circle under Pipili tehsil.A vigilance official said the duo allegedly demanded the bribe from an applicant to process and forward an inquiry report required for conversion of his agricultural land into homestead land.“The applicant had applied for conversion of his land as per govt rules. When he approached the revenue inspector’s office to inquire about the status of his application, the accused allegedly demanded a bribe to initiate and process the mutation case,” the vigilance official said.Despite repeated requests from the applicant, the accused allegedly refused to proceed without receiving the money. Unable to meet the demand, the applicant approached the vigilance authorities and lodged a complaint a few days ago.Acting on the complaint, Odisha vigilance laid a trap and allegedly caught Jena and Behera red-handed while they were accepting the bribe.Following the arrests, the vigilance officials launched simultaneous searches at the accused persons’ residences and office to ascertain whether they possessed assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
