Kolkata: Bengal BJP on Tuesday pointed at ‘tainted candidates’ on Trinamool’s list while taking a dig at the dearth of eligible candidates in the party.BJP‘s Bengal co-incharge Amit Malviya took to his X handle to point at Paresh Adhikari, whose daughter Ankita Adhikari’s job was cancelled by the Calcutta High Court. “First name on the Trinamool list: Paresh Adhikari, former education minister of Bengal,” Malviya wrote, mentioning that the court had even ordered her to return the salary she had drawn. “Today, placing his name at the very top of the list is nothing short of a mockery of the victims of the SSC scam,” Malviya said.BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Rahul Sinha said that the party expected CM Mamata Banerjee to showcase her achievements in the last 15 years and seek votes on that. “Instead, we could see each of the tainted leaders in the candidate list of Trinamool. The party could not drop them despite serious corruption charges against them,” Sinha said.Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya said that Trinamool’s ‘dearth of candidates’ was apparent from pitting Pabitra Kar against Suvendu Adhikari. “We heard that a heavyweight leader from Trinamool is likely to contest from Nandigram this time. It now seems that Trinamool is trying to save its sinking ship. Adhikari will win in both Nandigram and Bhowanipore,” he said.Meanwhile, BJP leaders on Tuesday met at Union minister Bhupendra Yadav’s residence to discuss the second list of the candidates. “From the candidate list we can easily read the writing on the wall. Trinamool will have to go on May 4, and the countdown has started,” Bhattacharya said.
