BJP state leader Aditya Sahu condemned Jharkhand Chief Minister’s new residence project, dubbing it a ‘sheeshmahal’ and a grotesque misuse of funds that should benefit the tribal and moolvasi communities. He drew attention to the dire need for essential services for the underprivileged, starkly juxtaposed with the opulent structure planned.

Ranchi: BJP state president Aditya Sahu on Sunday termed the chief minister’s new residence project as wasteful expenditure of the hard-earned money of moolvasis and the tribals of the state.Speaking to the media at his party office, Sahu said, “The CM who calls himself the leader of a govt for the poor is building a ‘sheeshmahal’ worth Rs 100 crore while the economically weaker section does not have a house to live in.”He alleged that poor people were also not getting abua awas, old age pension, and payment of paddy procurement. He said that the building construction department has floated a tender worth Rs 67 crore for the project, adding that with the additional cost of interior designing and furniture, the plan’s expenditure could be around Rs 100 crore.Sahu said that, according to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India report, the cost of the residence of the then Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal increased 342 per cent to reach Rs 33.66 crore, adding that the Jharkhand CM’s residence would be three times more than Kejriwal’s residence. He warned that the BJP workers would protest in a democratic manner if the CM does not drop the project.Congress state spokesman Rakesh Sinha said, “The statement reflects the dual character of BJP. The projects which are termed as symbols of development during BJP rule are called wasteful when opposition-ruled govt takes them up. The modernisation of the CM residence is an administrative necessity.”
