Chennai: BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran and former DMK minister Geetha Jeevan on Saturday questioned human resources minister D Sarathkumar’s explanation regarding a viral video that allegedly showed him crushing a white powder. The controversy erupted after an old video resurfaced on social media, prompting allegations that the minister was crushing drugs. In response, Sarathkumar released a video denying the charge and said he was merely crushing a tablet prescribed for his child. The explanation, however, failed to convince opposition leaders. In a post on X, Nainar said the minister’s clarification raised more questions than answers. “When doctors are administering antibiotics to children up to about four years old in tonic form, which doctor prescribes a pill to a one-and-a-half-year-old child? No child is visible anywhere in the video. Did he abandon the unwell child somewhere while cheerfully enjoying a cricket match, crush the pill and snort it? Especially, would anyone crush a pill meant for a child and snort it like a narcotic substance?” Nainar asked.Former minister Geetha Jeevan also cast doubt on the explanation, arguing that tablets are rarely prescribed to children below five years of age. “If Sarathkumar claims that he crushed only a tablet and not drugs, can he demonstrate the same before reporters?” she asked.
