Bhagalpur: Amid rising cases of cyberfraud in the Bhagalpur region, police have arrested one Rajkishore Yadav from Khushalpur village under Pirpainti police station in Kahalgaon subdivision. The operation was carried out by the Bhagalpur police and the cyber cell team.Police said Yadav, a customer service point operator, allegedly cloned the fingerprints of more than 400 people, including women, using silicone biometric moulds and paper copies. He is also accused of collecting Aadhaar numbers, ATM cards, bank passbooks and other documents to access bank accounts, carry out financial transactions and siphon off benefits from government schemes. DSP (cyber cell) Kanishk Srivastava said Yadav exploited the illiteracy and lack of awareness of villagers who approached him for Aadhaar updates, e-KYC, banking and other services.“The fraud money could be more than several crores from the scams,” he said. Srivastava said police had recovered fingerprint copies of 320 people, including some women from Katihar district. “During the cross examination, Yadav has named one accomplice also,” he said, adding that efforts were on to expose the entire gang.City SP Shailendra Singh said the cyber police received a written complaint from a resident of Parshurampur under Pirpainti police station on March 23. A joint team was then formed to investigate. “On confirmation of the online scam being done by the CSP operator in connivance with other fraudsters, the police teams arrested the main CSP operator,” Singh said.Police seized four cash transaction registers, a laptop, an account-opening register, a fingerprint capture machine, 120 ATM cards, 70 bank passbooks, Aadhaar details and other incriminating materials. During interrogation, Yadav allegedly named Sonu Mandal of Salempur as an accomplice who arranged fingerprints.
