Ahmedabad: Gujarat will introduce the Holistic Progress Card (HPC) in 10% of govt, grant-in-aid and self-financed secondary and higher secondary schools in every district as a pilot from 2026-27 academic year, as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.Developed by NCERT’s PARAKH, the HPC is a 360-degree assessment framework designed to evaluate students beyond examination scores. It assesses cognitive, emotional and psychomotor development while incorporating feedback from teachers, parents, peers and students themselves to provide a comprehensive record of a child’s overall growth.The state education department approved the digital rollout of the HPC, replacing conventional printed report cards. The move was formalised through a notification issued on June 20. The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB), in collaboration with Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), has developed an online module for teachers to record and manage student assessments digitally.To prepare schools for the rollout, zonal workshops were organised between July 20 and July 24 in Surat, Vadodara, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad and Rajkot. The sessions brought together GSHSEB officials, PARAKH-NCERT resource persons, district education officers and nodal officers, who were trained in using the digital assessment platform.Education officials said the HPC shifts the focus from mark-based evaluation to holistic learning by recognising students’ creativity, leadership, values, sports participation and socio-emotional skills.PARAKH-NCERT CEO Indrani Bhaduri, in a video message, praised Gujarat for becoming the first state in the country to implement a digital HPC at the secondary level.
