Ahmedabad: For the first time, civilian employees serving in Gujarat Police will be eligible for an annual Director General of Police (DGP) reward system. State police have expanded their commendation framework to include non-uniformed staff, recognising their contribution in the smooth administration of the force.The eligibility criteria have also been widened. In addition to crime detection and prevention, personnel will now be considered for exceptional work in administration, traffic management, election duties, and achievements in national and international sporting events.Announcing a major overhaul of the commendation system, DGP Gyanendra Singh Malik said the number of DGP commendation discs have been increased from 110 to 148. Ten commendation rolls will be awarded each year to outstanding junior clerks, senior clerks, deputy administrative officers, accountants, stenographers, and other civilian employees who support the police department’s operations.The minimum qualifying service has been reduced from seven years to five years. The revised framework also extends eligibility to personnel from specialised units such as the Bomb Disposal Squad, mounted police, dog squad, armourers and police band staff, ensuring broader representation across the force.The expansion comes against the backdrop of Gujarat Police’s rapid growth. More than 30,000 police personnel have been recruited between 2019 and 2026, while new police ranges, districts, commissionerates and specialised units, including Cyber Centre of Excellence and Anti-Narcotics Task Force, have been established.Both the DGP commendation disc and the newly introduced DGP commendation rolls will be presented every year on Dec 15, the day Gujarat Police received the prestigious President’s colours.
